In 2013, GCVF expanded its support to local veterans by opening the Veterans Connection in Camarillo. The Veterans Connection program serves as a one-stop shop that provides local veterans in Ventura County and the surrounding area a single locale to access a variety of services. The purpose of the Veterans Connection is two fold:
- To connect veterans to services and programs needed and opportunities they seek
- To connect the community to local veterans in need
The Veterans Connection continuously collaborates with numerous government and non-profit organizations. Some of the organizations we work with include the Ventura County Veterans Services Office, The California Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Ventura County Veterans Court.
The services provided at the Veterans Connection include the following:
- Medical and disability claims services
- Restorative and wellness programs, including PTSD and psychological counseling
- Employment and job search counseling
- Homeless veterans support
In just three short years, the Veterans Connection has grown from serving a small handful of veterans on a weekly basis to now over forty veterans per week, which equates to over 2,000 veterans annually. These local veterans, all of whom are literally our neighbors in Ventura County and the broader area, range from recently discharged soldiers and sailors that saw action in Iraq and Afghanistan, to Vietnam and Korean War veterans.
Our experience has shown that many of the veterans that enter our doors are not aware of potential benefits they are eligible for, and if they are aware, they don’t know how to start the process to access them. Our goal is to serve each and every veteran that enters the Veterans Connection by either directly helping or guiding him or her to the proper service provider.
