After nearly two years in stable housing, an Army veteran and his family faced another important milestone: finding a permanent, long-term place to call home.

26-year Navy veteran Jack had been experiencing homelessness for more than a year. He was living in a riverbottom encampment that was scheduled to close, leaving him with nowhere safe to go.

During a summer outreach visit, GCVF met a veteran living outside a Trader Joe's with his dog, trying to escape the extreme heat. As we got to know him, we learned he was living with the lasting effects of a stroke and needed support navigating his next steps.

Stanley and Garth, both disabled veterans who were unable to drive, faced daily limitations simply getting out into their community. That changed when our team member Charles delivered motorized scooters, giving them the freedom to travel.

At 89 years old, Air Force veteran Daniel was living in his vehicle with his dog when it broke down recently, putting both of them at immediate risk. We transported Daniel to an assistive care shelter, arranged for his vehicle to be towed and repaired (preventing it from being impounded) and secured a foster home for his dog while a permanent housing solution is determined.

Army veteran Jacky was living under a bridge at a public beach. The GCVF team acted immediately and moved Jacky into a safe motel room, providing food support, and helping stabilize her during a critical moment.
